IMO it's just really badly written, I expected more from the kiseki writers tbh (though IDK if the main scenario writers took part in the scripting of this anime). Neither of the old man or Rogan's reaction to the Empire's demands even makes sense.

Firstly the old man. Ridiculous to think he can takeover the entire continent with Archaisms from the Society. I mean they wrote him to be a power drunk dude but I didn't know he is also senile and dumb, to think that with the power of some archaisms and maybe 1 Aion he can crush the entire Empire and their soldats + divine knight.

Then there's Rogan. He wants to go to war with the Empire. That's just stupidity at its finest. North Ambria doesn't even have a solution for the Soldats, not to mention how many other Masters there are like Aurelia and Victor. IDK if he'd rather fight and die but he speaks as if he can win, bloody delusional.

And finally their entire "scouting mission". Why didn't they scout how many Railguns/Soldats/Tanks etc. the Empire have? That would have told them it's impossible to fight.

So in reverse order:
Their scouting mission was made by the albino chick as a time waste/lip-service act. She's either working for/with the empire or another yet unrevealed third party. Which leads to...

Rogan, he hates the empire and want to exert northern dominance to protect his homeland. Unfortunately he's a short sighted hot head who was SOOOOO easily manipulates by albino chick into got to the extreme.

Lastly, Glark was your typical "Regain my Glory/Significance in the greediest way possible" overreaching noble who believes themselves untouchable type who's been sitting at the top of his molehill thinking it a mountain whilst drinking his own Kool-Aid

I honestly surprised that they showed the whole cast of Trails in the Sky and Society's known members, even though only from Cold Steel's perspective in this eps.. And also a Giant Archaism that is probably similar level with the one that blasted Crossbell

More like, enemy of the whole Zemuria continent, and basically the master mind of many incidents and disasters both from before and after this Northern War happens.. Well, they sometimes "helps" others by giving them power, like Archaisms that is mentioned in this eps, or artifacts.. Sometimes, their members also involve themselves directly in the cause.. FYI, they're very strong members.. Some of them are basically immortal, some are Forbidden Magic users, and the rest are just plain strong..

But what makes a lot of players fond of them is because, despite that being an organization, their members are "Free" to do whatever they want.. So even from the same incident like a War, they could simply give support to both sides at the same time, or even a member could antagonize the other member and suddenly they fight with each other.. A rather chaotic group of people, but also interesting for us to know what their motives are..

My mind is confused, which is zemuria continent and what is archaisms.

I think i have to rewatch this episode once more to understand

Zemuria is this world's name.. or rather, this continent.. So far, the game only reveals the map of 1 continent..

And Archaism, in this eps, is those automatic small robots that shoots laser

its hard to tell who cause sometimes the flash back shows a different timeline or event happened recently but mostly rean doesnt killed anyone he just disabled them

i know its the one scene ive been watching this for this whole time Sara's badass moment plus just want levi and her to meet and hopefully sara can help her find herself without people doing the thinking for her maybe levi can become a bracer or something

Rean and his friends are good people working for an evil empire... They are the bad guys when you look at it from the perspective Lavi and MCs characters in games before Trail of Cold Steel!

Lavi isn't in the game just in this anime which is weird since we can just guess cause where they go from here after the war ends

So, to put it simply, Rean, as the Empire's hero, is basically North Ambria's most annoying villain.. While Lavi, at the same time, is basically Empire's enemy.. But that doesn't necessarily mean Rean and Lavi are enemies to each other..

Next, to answer your question, yes, Rean is a good guy, and most people that knows him closely actually describes him as selfless.. He might even help his enemy if their motive aligns.. Like in previous eps, he lets Lavi alive because he knew that Lavi isn't a bad girl, despite that he knows that she is from the enemy team, especially his Nation's enemy..

its actually one of the few reason why north ambria didnt take a chance to get an independence from the empire even after hajimari no kiseki ended. there is talk about it, but thats it. unlike crossbell and jurai which actually had some effort for independence. the people in north ambria preferred to be under empire as their state.

this is being told in the npc quest (in tocs 3-4) where they said living in north ambria was worse before they were annexed the empire, the empire gave them jobs, a way to live and ending northern jaegers institution forever.
